Buying a Colombian Property

There is no restriction on foreigners owning properties and real estate in Colombia and you do not have to fear it will be seized by the government unlike in some other countries. There is a lot of ongoing construction in Colombia, especially in Medellín, and there are many properties for sale to include existing and pre-construction. Even though the financing through a Colombian bank is not easy, the prices of Colombian properties relative to the United Sates or Europe are extremely inexpensive and the quality of construction is very high. There are also some differences in how a property is purchased and you will definitely need a Colombian lawyer to ensure that there are no liens on the property, etc. Also, there are no Title companies in Colombia as in the United States or Europe.
